We are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. We support each other and our children while promoting patriotism. Our organization focuses on our mission every single day and will never, ever, forsake our troops, our veterans or the families of our Fallen Heroes.
Our membership also includes Associate members and Blue Star Dads who join us in support of our Military.
On January 22, 1942 the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking Mothers of serviceman to return the coupon after
filling it out. After receiving 1000 responses from the ad it was decided to form a permanent organization.
On February 1, 1942 three hundred mothers met in the Durant Hotel, in Flint, Michigan. Captain George H. Maines,
who had conceived the idea for this group, acted as the chair of the first meeting. On February 6, 1942 the organization was reported in the Congressional record. Chapters then formed in Michigan,
Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California, Iowa and Washington.
In June of 1960 the organization was officially chartered by Congress.
Today we have over 6,000 members from more than 200 Chapters throughout the nation.
Our primary concern is to support our active duty
military service personnel through the
collecting and delivery of care packages which include
a touch of home for our deployed troops.
That's where our communities and local businesses partner with us,
hosting supply drives and donating funds for mailing care packages.
